Our Story
Modh (pronounced "moe") is a sustainable Irish textile brand founded by award-winning designer Alison Nea, whose work blends artistic vision with environmental responsibility. With a background in costume design for film and theatre, Alison graduated with first-class honours in Design for Stage and Screen from the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology in 2020. Her early career saw her working on high-profile productions, including Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, but her desire to explore her creativity in a more meaningful way led her to establish Modh in 2021.
Since its founding, Modh has become synonymous with slow, sustainable design. Alison’s dedication to her craft has earned her the prestigious DCCI Future Maker Award and recognition as a finalist in Irish Country Magazine’s Irish Made Awards for textiles. These accolades celebrate her innovation and craftsmanship, which are evident in every piece she creates.
Modh’s collections are inspired by nature and rooted in traditional Irish craft techniques. Alison specialises in eco-printing and natural dyeing, using foraged leaves and flowers to create intricate patterns on Irish linen. From Weeping Willow leaves to blooms grown in her own dye garden, each design captures the textures and pigments of the natural world. Her Dublin studio serves as both a creative space and a hub for sustainability, where artistry and environmental consciousness come together.
In addition to her work with Modh, Alison is committed to education and community engagement. She regularly hosts workshops to share her expertise in natural dyeing and sustainable practices, fostering a growing community of eco-conscious makers.
Modh’s name, meaning “method” in Irish, reflects Alison’s thoughtful and intentional approach to design. Her offerings have expanded from eco-printed scarves to include gender-neutral clothing, accessories like the Irish Linen Holdall Bag, and homeware such as Table Runners and Placemats. Each piece is handcrafted, timeless, and designed to bring the beauty of nature into everyday life.
Grounded in nature and inspired by Ireland’s craft heritage, Modh brings the beauty of sustainable design to both wardrobes and living spaces, creating timeless pieces that reflect a deeper connection to the world around us.
